Fabrizio Benevelli

He graduated with top honors in Saxophone (with M. Ferraguti) and Clarinet (with M. Fornasari), furthering his training with masters such as F. Mondelci and M. Marzi, and attending the European course SUONI in Piacenza. Since then, he hasn’t stopped: he has graced theater stages (Re Nudo with Elio, Canzonette Vagabonde with M. Crippa, La Dolce Vita with the Italian Cinema Orchestra, Rossini Compilation with P. Cevoli), collaborating with actors, choreographers, comedians, and musicians of every kind.

Winner of the Verona Arena audition, he has performed with Italy’s most important orchestras under world-renowned conductors and composers such as Riccardo Muti, Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani, John Adams, and many others. As a soloist, he has played with the Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia, the St. Petersburg City Orchestra, the Filarmonica Toscanini, and the Fancelli Orchestra. With his ensemble Saxofollia, he has won eight international competitions, recorded albums ranging from Omaggio a J. Françaix to Estate, and represented Italy at the World Sax Congress in Ljubljana.

An tireless explorer of styles, he conducts the Briccialdi Big Band with guests such as Fabio Concato and Antonello Salis, performs with the Italian Sax Orchestra, the Jazz Art Orchestra, and the Habanera Project, moving seamlessly from classical to jazz to pop. He has shared the stage with artists including Natalie Cole, Elisa, Gianluca Grignani, Gianni Morandi, Blanco, Elodie, Marracash, Marco Mengoni, Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, Ultimo, and many others.

He has recorded the DVD of J. Trigos’ opera Cachechito Raspado, the album Intimorosamente by Roberta Vacca (Rai Trade), Now, and Then featuring works by Berio and Maderna for ECM, and has collaborated on numerous recordings with Fabio Armiliato, Alexia, Jenny B, Sonohra, In-Grid, Giardini di Mirò, and many more. In short: classical, pop, or experimental… wherever there’s music, his saxophone is there.
